Most of us can do a thing for a day;some of us can do it for a week but by the time the end of the month rolls around, we start to lose track of our motivation.  It’s a common problem.  It really doesn’t matter what the goal is… after a few weeks, many of us start to lose track of our progress.

We forget the strides we were making only fourteen days ago.  What, then, is the key to keeping on track for our goal?  “Sticktoitness”.  I’m sure if you look that word up in a dictionary, it won’t be there.  But it should be!

Stick to a task ‘til it sticks to you,

Beginners are many, but enders are few.

Honor, power, place and praise,

Will come, in time, to the person who stays.

Stick to a task ‘til it sticks to you,

Bendat it, sweat at it, smile at it, too!

For out of the bend and the sweat and the smile,

Will come life’s victories, after awhile.

Figuring out your weak spots will help your “Sticktoitness”.

Mixed Motivation:  One side of you wants one thing while the other side moves toward something different.  Are you really committed to your goal?  Make the commitment and stick to it!

Fuzzy Goals:  The fuzzier your goals, the less likely you are to attain them. The more concrete you make them, the sharper they become and the more likely you will stick to them.

Taking Your Eyes Off The Goal:  You must verbally repeat your goal over everyday.  Write it down over and over.  Discuss it with others.  Put it on your mirror with a “post-it” note or on the dashboard of your car or the refrigerator… any place just keep it in sight!

Never Assessing Your Goals:  If you don’t measure it, you won’t achieve it!

Giving Up Too Soon:  We’ve need to stick to our task.  Sales people are especially aware of this because often it’s that last call at the end of the day that turns out to be the big one!

Sticktoitness… it’s a silly word but a great concept!  Patch up the weak spots; keep yourself in gear and head toward your goals!

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”  ~Thomas Edison
